We recently celebrated the 16th “birthweek” of our venerable dog Pluto, who was born in mid-August of 1995 and continues to enjoy life, and we continue to enjoy him. Here are three candid shots as he enjoyed napping outside our living room window on September 5:

Little green frogs have enjoyed inhabiting my niece’s garden this summer. These pictures were also taken on September 5:

During mid-September this blue heron spent quite a bit of time close by at the neighborhood park, amazingly close to a busy road not far from downtown. The first two photos were taken on the mornings of September 11 and 14, with 7×35 binoculars:

A cute but elusive little calico cat whom I have nicknamed “Callie” has moved into our neighborhood and sneaks into our garage sometimes. I tried to capture her face but only got her in the process of disappearing instead:

I’ve never been to New York City, or the Pentagon, or Shanksville, Pennsylvania, but today my thoughts turn to those places and also to this site, which I did see, and I offer these images in memory and tribute to fallen and surviving heroes of September 11, 2001 and April 19, 1995, and all victims of terror and hate:
